ATLANTA, Georgia — This year’s Miss Universe pageant might just have proved more than ever that it will remain relevant, with the victory of South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi, a black woman and an advocate of natural beauty. “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my kind of skin and my kind of hair, was never considered to be beautiful. I think that it is time that that stops today,” Tunzi said in her final message before she was announced as the new Miss Universe.
