SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento City Council votes Saturday to lift the citywide curfew and relieve the National Guard. The scheduled departure of the National Guard is set for 12 a.m. Saturday night, per officials.
“We do not want to keep a curfew in place or the guard on our streets a minute longer than necessary,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “The peaceful and powerful demonstrations of the past five days have given me confidence that these measures, which we imposed reluctantly, are no longer needed.”
The curfew began Monday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in response to riots and looting seen across the Sacramento downtown area.
