WASHINGTON — Hundreds of Armenians in Washington gathered at Sheridan Circle on Friday to protest what they called Azerbaijani aggression on Armenian territory. The rally organized under the “Protest Azeri Aggression” banner, was coordinated by the Armenian Youth Federation.”

The international community has been silent. From Germany to the United States. President Trump has been silent. President Trump has been secretly funding Azerbaijan,” said Alex Mandoukian, a member of the Armenian Youth Federation, Washington DC Chapter. Fighting in the disputed region broke out last week when Azeri and ethnic Armenian soldiers exchanged fire.

It’s been the heaviest clashes in the region since 2016 with dozens of casualties reported. Both sides blame each other for the escalation and report of thousands of casualties. Earlier Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged to stand by Azerbaijan in the conflict. The Nagorno-Karabakh region is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but has an independent government led by a majority group of ethnic Armenians.
